The most challenging road race in the world...

Interested in being a course worker?

JD flags the Sanderson end of the race. The Big Bend Open Road Race needs about 85 volunteer course workers for the 2011 race. There are a variety of positions that need to be filled. The most popular volunteer job would be 'working' a gate. This involves securing a gate so that no traffic enters the race course at any time during the event. This would have to be the most fun way to see the event as there are no spectator areas.

All course workers receive a free T-shirt and a special 'Course Workers Survival Kit'! If you are interested in being a course worker for the 2011 Big Bend Open Road Race, please fill out the following form or call 1-432-336-3331 ext 239 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. central time.

"March 2011

Dear Course Worker,

The days are quickly ticking away for the next Big Bend Open Road Race on April 23, 2011. Whether you have been a Course Worker before or have just decided to be one this year; I would like to THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR VOLUNTEERING! We absolutely could not do it with out you. Many people do not realize the significance and importance of your job.

I myself worked timing and scoring at a number of different races in the past years and witnessed a variety of tasks for course workers. If you are planning to work the April race please complete the downloadable form and return it as soon as possible.

Please note; the Sanderson Course Worker meeting will be held Wednesday, April 20 at the Community Building. I also remembered to listen to your request so that you too may enjoy the parade. We have moved the Fort Stockton Course Worker meeting to 6:30 p.m. on April 22nd . It will still be held at the Pecos County Civic Center located on North Hwy 285. As a small token of our appreciation we will be serving a light meal before the meeting. Remember this meeting is MANDATORY and everyone planning to work a gate with you must be present to obtain an armband. Thank you again and see you soon!!

Sincerely,

Kenda Furman-Belardo,

Race Coordinator
